Chicago!
We planned a weekend trip to Chicago for Spring Break for a well deserved weekend away for all of us! We drove to South Bend to catch the train which was perfect because Jackson has wanted to see the campus for years! (He has been dreaming of going to Notre Dame since kindergarten!) We had extra time so we checked out the bookstore, the football field and drove all over campus.
Dave is so great at finding fun things for us to do as a family and the North Shore train to Chicago was one of his best finds! What a blast! The timing was perfect too after just losing my grandpa who worked on trains all his life. What a tribute to him! I thought he must have been smiling down at the five of us.
We did not plan on it be freezing in Chicago when we planned the trip two months prior but the kids were troopers. Even when it snowed the next day!!!
This trip was also about showing the children where Daddy and I lived in Chicago, our favorite restaurant The Heartland Cafe, the train we took daily, and where we decided to elope and eventually marry. It was wonderful to share our stories with them and laugh at ourselves and the good times we had.
Aurora was brought to the fabulous, gigantic American Girl store for an early birthday present. She told her doll Julie how she was moving her from the big city onto a much smaller one. (Thank you Grammie and Papa for the new doll!)
We had a blast but have decided the next time we go to Chicago it will be in the summer!

Gym Show
.
The kids had their end of the year "Gym Show" which is always very exciting. They show us dances they have learned at this year it was based on the months in a year. My favorites were Aurora's dance for November with her pilgrim hat and Jackson's Monster Mash for October was awesome! They were quite the little dancers!

Home
I was grateful to be given the gift of coming home to be at my grandpa's funeral service. I was so touched by the words spoken by my father, uncle and brother in honor of Grandpa. It was beautiful. So many familiar faces at the service! Will said it best "What a gift Grandpa gave us bringing all of these wonderful people together."
I wanted to share some of my pictures of my stay in Portland. Thanks to everyone, it was so good to see all of you! And to my brother: The best times were with you. You are my "scarecrow" and I always miss you most of all...
*A special thanks to my own little family who went on without the mama around! David did wonderful with the kiddos! I think he was happy to see me come back though! ;)
